Our Approach to Child Therapy and Evaluation

Picture
COLLABORATION
Our approach is collaborative and relational in nature involving both parents and child. We feel it is an honor to work with your family. As such we are caring, playful, and always respectful of you and your child's views and wishes.

INDIVIDUALIZED CARE
At ACCP we know that one method does not always work best for every child and family. What sets us apart from others, is the combination of specific expertise AND the ability to listen and understand the unique needs and qualities of your child and family. Our care is based on understanding your child and determining the plan that works best for your family.  By better understanding your child’s strengths and interests, we will help her find creative ways to learn new skills and work through her challenges. We turn to the people who know your child best (parents, teachers, coaches) to fully understand your child.

EVIDENCE BASED CARE
ACCP uses proven assessment and therapeutic strategies backed by scientific evidence to to help your child.  As part of our commitment to evidence-based care, we collaboratively generate clear, measurable goals for success at the start of our work with your family and regularly track your child’s progress. We draw from several different therapeutic modalities depending on the presenting problem, your family's needs and age of your child. Some therapy approaches we use are cognitive-behavioral, behavioral, play therapy, and parent-child therapy.

Dr. Tester has specifically crafted her practice to work with all age children, and has a specific expertise in working with even the youngest children, that many therapist do not see.
